Links & On-Page SEO
Adding links to your content can carry a lot more weight then you think. While trading backlinks has always been an important part of gaining traffic, the quality of the links you place on your site is important to your search engine optimization strategy.
The Perfect Number of Links
On a typical blog post, the number of links you should have is two or three. At least one of these links should be outbound, linking to a credible source related to your topic. The other links should be inbound, connecting users to other related blog posts. Navigational links at the bottom or top of your page should not be included in this number.
Include Quality In-Text Links
When thinking about on-page SEO, you need to consider the quality of the links you are using. As a human reader, does it make sense to place a link there? If the answer is no, you could be hurting your ranking on Google.
Focus on finding and using a few high authority links to include in your posts, rather than including a lot of loosely-related links. It distracts your readers and makes your website look like spam. While it is a good idea to have at least one on each blog post, it is better to go without than choose something irrelevant.
Avoid linking to spam or shady websites, even if their content makes sense. Sending your readers to a credible source helps you build trust and shows that you are resourceful. Remember, your blog is a way to show off your expertise in a field.
