Search Engine Optimization
Websites that rank well in Google’s search results can receive huge amounts of targeted traffic. Why some websites receive better search placements than others depends on a number of factors, including quality content, good navigation, relevant back links and more. Recently, two more factors have come into play when it comes to search engine optimization. Now if a website is to rank well, it must be mobile-friendly and fast.
The internet is quickly evolving. Just a couple of years ago, most people surfed the net using a desktop computer. These days, they access the web using a mobile device, often a smartphone.
It is therefore imperative that a website have a responsive design that is mobile-friendly. It can lead to a higher ranking in the search results that are displayed on the device that most people now use.
Google’s search results also now tell mobile users if a website is mobile-friendly. Users are more likely to click on these websites than on ones that are not optimized for mobile-viewing.
Users do not have patience for slow-loading websites. According to one study, visitors expect a site to load in two seconds or less. They will abandon it if it does not load in three seconds.
Google recognizes this fact and uses a website’s speed as a search results ranking factor. Simply put, faster sites tend to rank higher than slower sites.
Speed can also affect how many of your website’s pages the search engines can crawl. Fewer crawled pages can mean fewer pages in the search engines and less traffic to a website.
