What is it about responsive web design that makes it so special in regard to online marketing? In this blog, we’ll explain why switching to responsive web design is one of the best things you can do in terms of your digital marketing strategy:
Google recommends responsive design
Google has played a major role in responsive design’s rise to popularity. Google prefers it since responsive sites are easier for its search engine to crawl. Since responsive sites only have one URL — as opposed to mobile sites which have more — Google’s search engine just has to crawl the site once.
Google is factoring mobile-friendliness into its search algorithm
So what does it matter what Google thinks? Because its search engine algorithm can make or break your online marketing strategy.
As of April 21st, Google is factoring mobile-friendliness into its algorithm. According to a recent Computerworld article, this represents a major shift in regard to search engine marketing:
“I think it should be a shake-up for mobile. Google does change its algorithm quite frequently, but this is a bit of a larger change…. Websites that are not designed [with mobile in mind] will take a hit and websites that are responsively designed will begin to rise in search results.”
Any business can switch to responsive web design
All of this isn’t necessarily a bad thing if your business doesn’t have a responsive site. What it really means is that you have an opportunity to improve your online marketing efforts.
